A Night of Clay, Pots, and Play

A special event for couples will be held in as part of “International Education Week.”  The Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will host a date night where couples can learn about other cultures on Friday, November 20th at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Mystery and Mayhem at the MPC

On Friday, October 9th and Saturday, October 10th  at 6p.m., BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will host a date night where couples work together to solve a mock mystery: “The Disappearance of the Parrot Jar.”

   Celebrate Your Museum Day

On Saturday, September 26, BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will participate in a statewide event called ‘Celebrate Your Museum.’  Visitors to the museum may enjoy a variety of activities on at the MPC from 1 – 3:00 that afternoon for the celebration.

    The classic phrase “once upon a time” will be whispered at BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) as young children have the opportunity to listen to stories from around the world.

On Friday, September 18th, BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will host a “Survivor” date night to test couples’ ability to withstand challenges and test their ability to survive in the ancient world.  There will be two sessions: the first at 6 and the second at 8 p.m.

Passports: A Cultural Discovery Day

On June 9, BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will begin their program ‘Mornings @ the Museum’, which will provide families in the community with fun summer activities.

MPC Lecture Series

Why did Hopi potters start producing bright yellow, high-fired pottery in the 1300s? Why did they begin to paint butterflies, flowers, and Kachinas on yellow pottery and the walls of kivas? On Friday, June 12, Dr. Kelley Ann Hays-Gilpin will answer these questions and others in her presentation “The Hopi Flower World in Painted Pottery: AD 1200-1700.”

Exhibition Opening

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will open a new exhibition; New Lives: Building Community at Fourmile Ruin on April 22, 2009.  The exhibition explores the changes at Fourmile Ruin, an archaeological site in East-Central Arizona that allowed people from differing backgrounds to integrate into a single community.

MPC Publishes New Catalogue

As part of their ‘New Popular Series’ collection of publications, the Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) has published a new color catalogue. The catalogue coordinates with the Museum’s current exhibition: Touching the Past: Traditions of Casas Grandes which covers the history of the people of the ancient city, Paquime.

Docent Program Offered at MPC

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) is seeking individuals to serve as volunteer docents at the Museum.  Docents have the opportunity to share a love of other cultures and the MPC’s collection of more than 150,000 objects with visitors of all ages.
