A Night of Clay, Pots, and Play

A special event for couples will be held in as part of “International Education Week.”  The Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will host a date night where couples can learn about other cultures on Friday, November 20th at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote opportunities to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.   The David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies (http://kennedy.byu.edu/events/IEW/index.php) will be sponsoring activities throughout campus for this week.  The MPC will participate by hosting this date night focused on pottery from around the world.

“This event is a great way to explore other cultures and their traditions through their pottery,” said Anna McKean, promotions manager at the MPC.  “It’d be hard to find a date night like this anywhere else.”

Participants will not only learn about the beautiful Anasazi pottery from Fourmile Ruin in the MPC’s “New Lives” exhibition, but will see examples of pottery from other parts of the world and discover how much it can teach us about the people who made and used it.   The evening also includes “Cultural Trivia,” scavenger hunts, and a chance to make your own piece of pottery.  Refreshments will be provided.

Tickets are $10 per couple and are available at the Info Desk in the Wilkinson Student Center (WSC) beginning November 16th. This event will be held at the MPC, located on 700 North 100 East.  For more information call 801.422.0020 or visit mpc.byu.edu.
