‘Docent Program Offered at MPC’

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) is seeking individuals to serve as volunteer docents at the Museum.  Docents have the opportunity to share a love of other cultures and the MPC’s collection of more than 150,000 objects with visitors of all ages. MPC docents lead tours, conduct programs, help with special events, and generally represent the museum to the public.  Anyone with an interest in anthropology and/or archaeology is strongly encouraged to participate; however, previous experience in those fields is not required.

"All you need is a healthy curiosity and a willingness to learn about peoples and cultures, and then share what you learn," said Kari Nelson, Curator of Education, who will conduct the program.

A docent training course, funded in part by the Utah Humanities Council, will be conducted on Wednesdays during the month of March.  After training, it is expected that each docent commit to serve in the museum a few hours each month for at approximately 18 months.

Those interested in participating in the program should visit mpc.byu.edu or contact Kari Nelson, Curator of Education, for more information: (801)422-0022 or mpc_programs@byu.edu
