Celebrate Your Museum Day
On Saturday, September 26, BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) will participate in a statewide event called ‘Celebrate Your Museum.’ Visitors to the museum may enjoy a variety of activities on at the MPC from 1 – 3:00 that afternoon for the celebration.
“This event gives museums a chance to show off what they’re proud of and gives visitors a chance to appreciate and enjoy some of the great resources in their communities,” said Kari Nelson, MPC’s Curator of Education.
Guests will find a number of things to do while at the MPC – free tours, prize drawings, games, crafts, refreshments, and storytelling. Complimentary tours (beginning at 1:30 p.m.) will feature the MPC’s current exhibits: “New Lives: Building Community at Fourmile Ruin” and “Kachinas of the Southwest: Dances, Dolls, and Rain.” Those who participate in the tours will be entered into a prize drawing that will be announced at the end of the tour.
The MPC will also be featuring Culture Case displays and its newest addition: a “Learning Lounge.” This “lounge” was created to give adult visitors a place to explore topics related to exhibitions and collections at the MPC – giving them an opportunity to linger, browse, and learn. The lounge is furnished with seating, scholarly references and publications, and short-term displays of objects from the MPC’s permanent collection.
The MPC is proud to participate in “Celebrate Your Museum” day along with many other museums in Utah. The event is organized by the Utah Office of Museum Services, the Utah Museums Association, and the International Society of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
The MPC is located on 700 N. 100 E. For more information visit mpc.byu.edu or call (801)422-0020.
