‘MPC Publishes New Catalogue’
As part of their ‘New Popular Series’ collection of publications, the Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) has published a new color catalogue. The catalogue coordinates with the Museum’s current exhibition: Touching the Past: Traditions of Casas Grandes which covers the history of the people of the ancient city, Paquime.
This catalogue features articles written by Dr. Marcel Harmon, Dr. Gordon Rakita, Dr. Christine VanPool, and Dr. Todd Vanpool, all of whom were speakers in the MPC’s 2007 Lecture Series. Each article covers, as stated in the catalogue's introduction, how "the great trading culture of Casas Grandes influenced the developments of pottery, religious ideology and sport throughout the southwest."
Along with the articles, the catalogue includes photographic documentation of the Museum's Casas Grandes pottery collection. The over 200 items of pottery include descriptions and colored pictures that were written and compiled by BYU student employees.
The catalogue costs $25 and is available for purchase at the MPC. It will also be offered through the University of Utah Press Catalogue in the spring of 2009. The publication of the catalogue was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Utah Office of Museum Services.
